Building your first party in Emberfall Saga
Emberfall Saga gives you a lot of characters over its opening hours, and it's tempting to just run whoever you like most. That worked fine for me until the difficulty jumped around chapter four, and then my pretty but fragile team started losing fights it should have won.
The lesson I took away is to build for roles, not favourites. You want a frontline character who can soak hits, someone who heals, and at least one reliable damage dealer. The fourth slot is flexible and where you can play with your favourite personality.
Equipment matters more than levels here. I beat several fights that felt unfair simply by rechecking my gear and swapping in items I'd forgotten about. The game doesn't force you to optimise, but it quietly rewards you for it.
Take the side quests too. They're where the writing shines, and they hand out some of the best early equipment in the game.
